Legend Of Korra Episode 9 Synopsis, Review and Summary

Legend Of Korra Episode 9 Synopsis, Review and Summary

After Tarrlok arrives at a hideout located within the mountains near Republic City, he uses bloodbending to lock Korra in a metal box and leaves her imprisoned there.

The next morning, Tenzin's telephone rings as he is sleeping with his wife and son. When Meelo picks up the phone, he states his displeasure with the earliness of the call. Tenzin takes the phone from him and is stunned to learn that Korra has been kidnapped.

As the airbender arrives at City Hall, he finds Tarrlok having his arm treated by a healer and conversing with Chief Saikhan along with reporters on the scene. As Tenzin questions him about the events, Tarrlok lies, stating that Korra was captured by the Equalists after she came to his office demanding her friends be released. Tarrlok fabricated the entire scene as an attack by the Equalists, planting Equalist gear such as the electric glove and an Equalist bola around the scene to make it appear convincing.

As Lin Beifong, currently in the hospital, hears of the events on the radio, she metalbends her armor back on, takes off her Metalbending Police Force chief badge, puts on a coat and sets out to the police headquarters. There she rescues Asami, Mako, and Bolin from prison, informing them of the Avatar's kidnapping. The three are shocked to hear this from Lin, especially Mako, who is stunned and refuses to believe that she is gone. When the four approach Tenzin, the Councilman is surprised that Lin decided to forgo her stay at the hospital as well as the fact that the three were out of prison. Lin reminds Tenzin that finding Korra is more important and they decide to look for the Avatar together. Lin theorizes that in order to find Korra, they might have to search underground, to which Asami agrees, bitterly remembering her father's underground factory. Bolin shares his idea that the Equalists might be using tunnels to move underground, recalling how the Equalists drove through tunnels when he was abducted while working for the triads.

Struggling to escape the metal box set up by Tarrlok, Korra begins shouting for help and pounding the sides with her fists in the vain hope that someone will hear. Upon realizing the futility of her actions, she sits down while Tenzin's idea of meditating to learn Aang's message enters her mind. She meditates and successfully has visions on Aang's past. In her vision, she sees Aang and Toph Beifong talking alongside metalbending police officers. Toph tells Aang that he does not need to be here as she can handle this. Aang replies by saying that if the statements from witnesses are true, they are not dealing with a normal criminal, making his involvement in this situation a necessity. Toph submits to his request calling Aang by his childhood nickname of "Twinkle Toes" at which Aang becomes displeased, saying that he is far too old to be called that anymore and asks her to stop with the nicknames, to which she says no. The vision progresses to that of Aang and Toph in Kuang's Cuisine, arresting Yakone of his alleged crimes per witness statements. The vision ends with Korra pleased that she was finally able to connect to her past life.

As Lin, Mako, Tenzin, Bolin, and Asami locate the tunnel in the snowy streets of Republic City, the former police chief leads them through the dark passages using her seismic sense. Noticing Mako taking the lead, Asami feels his strong determination to find Korra as abnormal and she becomes discomforted. She later asks Bolin if they have shared feelings towards each other. Bolin tells her that they had in fact kissed once during the tournament, but that it was "no big deal" and she had nothing to worry about, much to her dismay. Asami is not convinced by Bolin's reassurance and becomes saddened. The group spots two Equalists on motorcycles entering a secret passage and follow. The team eventually reaches a large underground facility. They board a small rail cart, which they take through a tunnel to the other side. After locating the prison, Lin Beifong rescues her former policemen, who unfortunately lost their bending during their captivity. In the hallway, Mako angrily interrogates an Equalist about Korra's whereabouts, showing that he is determined to find her. He is about to hurt the Equalist when the man dismisses the idea that they had captured the Avatar and claims that the Equalists never attacked City Hall. Tenzin, in shock, deduces that Tarrlok's statement was an outright lie and that he was the one that had abducted Korra all along.

The alarm then sounds, forcing the team to make their escape. Bolin uses earthbending to delay a rail cart of pursuing Equalist chi blockers, but Lin spots the Lieutenant, chi blockers, and mecha tanks that arrive at the end of the tunnel to block the fleeing team. Lin, however, evades them by using a metal pipe as a ramp, piercing a hole in the roof with her earthbending, and then piercing another leading to the streets.

Meanwhile, Korra dives deeper into her vision, witnessing Yakone's trial. Chairman Sokka and the rest of the United Republic Council hear out the accusations towards Yakone. The prosecution is accusing Yakone of resurrecting bloodbending, a technique that has been tabooed all these years, supported by statements from witnesses. The defense attorney counters by reminding them of the rarity of such a skill and if ever Yakone has the ability to do so. He adds to his statement about the skill's usage, in which a bender can only perform the technique under the full moon and that the witnesses claim that they saw Yakone bloodbending every day other than the day a full moon is present.

After a period of time, Sokka announces the verdict of the Council. He explains how in his day, he had fought a firebender able to produce fire from his head, defeating him with his "trusty boomerang" and how before Toph Beifong had discovered metalbending, everyone had thought that such techniques were impossible. He rules that while bloodbending is indeed a rare skill, his past experience has taught him that there are people capable of doing skills deemed impossible to do and that Yakone is one of them. Thus, the Council imposes that Yakone is "guilty of all charges" and sentenced to "life in prison".

After the verdict, Yakone takes a stand while his eyes appear to bulge. At this time, Sokka is bloodbent, with his body contorting to Yakone's will. Toph tries to intervene with metalbending, but she too is overpowered. Yakone goes on to bloodbend everyone in the room, even Aang who was struggling to reach him.

As Tenzin, Lin, Mako, Bolin, and Asami arrive at City Hall, they meet with the rest of the Council and Chief Saikhan. Lin and her former captain share a cold greeting. In the meantime, Tarrlok arrives, asking for news of the Avatar. Tenzin, however, accuses him of having captured her all along. Tarrlok refuses, but the council page tells Tenzin and the rest that he had witnessed Tarrlok put Korra in the back of a truck. Lin asks him why he is telling this information now. He replies that he was fearful at first that Tarrlok would use his ability to bloodbend without the presence of a full moon. As the group approaches Tarrlok, Tenzin advises him to make it easier on himself and give in. Tarrlok, foregoing all pretense, knocks out everyone through bloodbending and makes his escape.

As Korra dives even deeper into her past life's experiences, she witnesses Yakone force Toph to unlock his handcuffs through bloodbending. Once his hands are free, he knocks everyone, except Aang unconscious. Yakone then lifts him into the air and laughs at his helplessness, to which Aang replies that he will not get away with it. Yakone laughs again and throws him into the steps to knock him unconscious. He then leaves City Hall and climbs into an ostrich horse-drawn carriage. As he rides away, Avatar Aang enters the Avatar State and chases after Yakone, using an air scooter. Aang airbends the carriage, causing it to crash across the street. As he closes in on the carriage, Yakone jumps up and bloodbends Aang to stop his attack. Yakone states that he is going to finish Aang's life once and for all, levitating him and trying to break his neck. When he was just about to die, Aang enters the Avatar State and effortlessly breaks free of Yakone's control over him. Aang earthbends Yakone, preventing his movement and advances toward him. He then uses energybending on Yakone, thus taking away the criminal's waterbending and his ability to bloodbend. As Korra's vision comes to an end, she understands that her visions were Aang's way of trying to warn her about Tarrlok.

As the group recovers, they decide to go looking for Tarrlok, as that will be the only way to locate Korra.

Tarrlok arrives at Korra's cell, telling her that his life had been ruined because of her. Korra deduces that his secret as a bloodbender has finally come out, furthermore that he is Yakone's son. Tarrlok states that he was his son until he became someone else in order to win Republic City. He tells her of how perfect his plan was before Korra intervened; of controlling the city through winning over the people, contrasting with his father's failed attempt to rule Republic City through its "rotten underbelly." As Tarrlok tells her that he will start a new life, taking her as his hostage, he heads upstairs and sees Amon alongside some of his chi blockers. The mysterious man behind the mask tells the chairman that it was "time for him to be equalized". Tarrlok retorts by saying that they have yet to face bending like his and proceeds to use his bloodbending to put down the chi blockers. However, Amon continues standing and starts to advance towards Tarrlok. Tarrlok tries once again, but, although with some difficulty, Amon continues to move towards him. Gasping in horror Tarrlok asks Amon what he is, and as he responds saying he is "the solution", Amon restrains Tarrlok and subsequently takes his bending.

As Amon orders his men to electrocute the box as a safety precaution and take Korra, the Avatar slings her armband over the bars at the top of the box and hoists herself up to avoid the electrical current, faking a cry of pain. As Lieutenant opens the box, finding what seems to be an unconscious Korra, the Avatar attacks them with firebending and incapacitates them with earthbending, allowing her to escape. She rushes out of the cabin and, from a distance, manages to get a glimpse of Amon abducting Tarrlok. Korra waterbends sharp icicles at Amon to give her time to escape. She slides down the mountain with Amon overlooking from behind and reprimanding the Lieutenant about their underestimation of her.

However, on her way down, she trips on a root and slams into a tree down the mountain, where she is later found by Naga, who brings her back to the city. When Tenzin, Lin, Mako, Bolin, and Asami find her, Tenzin and Lin begin to question her on how she escaped and where Tarrlok was. Mako pushes them aside and demands they give her some space. He then lifts her off Naga and carries her toward Oogi, where he tells her how worried he was and asks her if she is okay. Korra responds with a smile and says she is fine, and that she is glad that he is here. Mako carries her up and lays her down at the back of Oogi's saddle. He then pushes her hair out of her face and brushes the cut on her face with his hand while reassuring her she is safe now.

Legend Of Korra Episode 7 Synopsis, Review and Summary

With the closure of the Pro-bending Arena, Korra excitedly tells Mako and Bolin that Tenzin has allowed them to stay on Air Temple Island. However, they inform her that Asami has already invited them to live her father's mansion. When Asami shows up, she and Bolin, the latter of who pretends to speak as Pabu, convince Korra to visit them at the estate. Korra finally accepts the invitation and leaves the arena.

Lin Beifong and her Metalbending Police Force are shown raiding Cabbage Corp's headquarters, where they find large numbers of Equalist posters and weapons, namely electrified gloves. The owner, Lau Gan-Lan, is arrested in front of the cabbage merchant's statue where Lin Beifong then announces the official closing of the company to the media.

Korra then arrives at police headquarters where she sees Tahno, miserable on account of the failed attempts to restore his bending. After a short conversation and a promise of taking down Amon, Korra sees Hiroshi Sato conversing with Lin Beifong and Tenzin before leaving the establishment. Later, she visits the rest of the Fire Ferrets in Asami's house, where Bolin proudly explains of all the perks that come with living in the Sato estate.

After Korra and Asami participate in a Satomobile race, Korra goes to the restroom. Following a slight run-in with some make-up powder, she leaves the restroom and overhears Hiroshi talking of how the investigation of Cabbage Corp has bought them time and how he will be ready to strike soon. Korra quickly leaves the estate and goes to Tenzin and Lin, telling them of what she heard. Although quite disbelieving at first, they realize that Hiroshi's hate for benders may be because of the murder of his wife, done by the members of the Agni Kai Triad twelve years ago during a break-in and robbery at the mansion.

As they come to interrogate Hiroshi, Bolin, Mako, and Asami are quite annoyed; however, the businessman gives them permission to search all of Future Industries. This search proves to be unsuccessful, no Equalist material is found. That all changes, however, when what appears to be a warehouse worker slips a note into Korra's hand, telling her where to meet him to learn more about Hiroshi's potential ties with Amon. As Lin, Tenzin, and Korra meet him, their contact admits to being an Equalist, now repentant over Amon's desire to create war between benders and non-benders. He reveals that Hiroshi Sato is working for the Equalists, producing equipment for them in a secret underground facility beneath his own estate. The former Equalist also reveals that there are rumors about Sato planning something big involving the Equalists.

Lin and her metalbenders, taking Korra and Tenzin alongside, enter the Sato estate with intentions of finding and eliminating any threat. Under the pressure of losing her job because of Tarrlok's recent speeches criticizing her, Lin uses seismic sense to discover a secret tunnel from Hiroshi's workshop to the secret underground factory. Lin orders Officer Song to stay behind and make sure Bolin, Mako, and Asami do not come down; then she enters, followed by her men, Korra, and Tenzin.

As they come to the bottom, they witness the machines produced by Hiroshi. They are then locked in by a wall made of platinum, something that metalbending cannot control or manipulate. Lin guesses that the informant was nothing more than a setup. Unable to get out, the metalbenders, Lin, Tenzin and Korra are all forced to face Hiroshi and the Equalists; however, the machines play their part in giving the Equalists the advantage. In the meantime, Mako tricks Song by purposely "sneezing" a breath of fire as Bolin uses his earthbending to trip the officer. The brothers tie up the man and enter the hidden factory, leaving Asami behind.

All of the benders in the factory are easily defeated by Hiroshi's mecha tanks. Hiroshi then orders the chi blockers to round up their captives to be brought to Amon. As Mako and Bolin enter and try to save an unconscious Korra, Tenzin, and Lin, they are spotted by Hiroshi and the Lieutenant. Mako accuses Hiroshi of sponsoring the Fire Ferrets and supporting the Avatar just to gain their trust. Using an electrified glove, the businessman confirms it and states that it broke his heart watching Asami fall for a "firebending street rat" like Mako, then Asami enters. Seeing her disbelief and shock, Hiroshi asks her for forgiveness and tells her that he is doing this because of the loss of her mother who had been killed by firebenders. He then gives offers daughter a glove and tells her to join him and Amon in making a world a better place, free of benders. As Asami takes up the glove, the Fire Ferrets look up in disbelief and despair. However, to everyone's surprise, Asami stuns her father and the Lieutenant and then helps them escape as the Equalists take notice.

Back on the police airship, Korra tells the two brothers that not only they, but Asami, too, is welcome to come live on Air Temple Island, a proposition which they now gladly accept. At the same time, Lin tells Tenzin that Tarrlok was right in saying that she has failed her duty as chief of the police force, and that she will resign the next morning. When Tenzin tells her not to give up, she replies that she has not given up, and that she is going to look for her men and face Amon "outside the law". Korra then turns to Mako and tells him to go to Asami, knowing that she needs him. As he does so, Asami, confused and hurt, emotionally embraces Mako as the airship slowly approaches the Republic City coastline at night.

Legend Of Korra Episode 6 Synopsis, Review and Summary

Legend Of Korra Episode 6 Synopsis, Review and Summary

Korra, Mako, and Bolin are training for the pro-bending championship match when they hear Amon's voice on the radio. He commands the United Republic Council to shut down the Pro-bending Arena and cancel the finals, threatening "severe consequences" if they fail to comply.

Not waiting to find out the Council's decision via the media, the Fire Ferrets head down to City Hall on Naga. When they barge in, Korra calls upon her status as the Avatar and a pro-bending player to be heard. However, Tenzin and Tarrlok explain that the Council has already unanimously agreed to close the arena. Korra does not understand, as she surely thought that Tarrlok would want to take a stand against Amon, to which the Councilor informs her that he is still committed to bringing Amon to justice, but that he is unwilling to risk innocent lives just to let the pro-benders "play a game". But the team does not give up and tries to persuade the councilors to change their minds, arguing that pro-bending might be only a game to him, but it brings all the people of the city, benders and non-benders alike, together in peace and thus serves as an inspiration to everyone. However, to no avail, as the Council is not affected by their "naive idealism". As a last effort, Korra states that closing the arena down is the equivalent of letting Amon win, but Tarrlok ignores her statement and readies his gavel to proclaim the meeting adjourned. However, much to the surprise of everyone, Lin Beifong intervenes by destroying the gavel with her metal cables and sides with the Avatar. The chief argues that it is time the benders of the city opposed the Equalists and she offers to provide extra security with her officers during the match and to take full responsibility for the spectators' safety if the Council would keep the arena open. Tarrlok sarcastically states that it is hard to argue with Lin's excellent track record and that she has his support if the chief is confident she and her officers can protect the arena. Much to the Fire Ferrets' pleasure, every Council member, except Tenzin, changes their vote and the tournament is allowed to continue.

Once the decision has been finalized, Tenzin invites Lin to have a talk with him away from the others. In the hallway, he expresses his concern for her safety, stating that Tarrlok is simply playing her. When Lin bluntly states that she knows what she is doing, Tenzin announces that he will accompany her during the match. Albeit annoyed, she allows him to do so. When Korra comes up to the duo and passes Lin, she thanks her for her help; however, the metalbender completely ignores Korra. This urges her to ask Tenzin what Aang did to make Lin hate the Avatar, believing that was where the source of Lin's annoyance lay. Tenzin explains that her attitude had very little to do with Aang and the Avatar, but more with himself. Remembering what Pema told her the other day, Korra realizes that Lin and Tenzin used to be romantically involved. Taken aback by the statement, Tenzin begins to explain their story, but stops halfway through, saying that it was none of Korra's business and that they had moved passed it after since it had happened a long time ago.

Meanwhile, in a warehouse somewhere else in the city, Amon supervises the loading of four trucks with wooden crates. The Lieutenant approaches him and enlightens him about the Council's decision to ignore his warning and keeping the arena open. Amon is pleased with this news, stating that "everything is going according to plan".

That night, the Metalbending Police Force has deployed a multitude of boats, airships, and trucks to secure the arena. Before the match begins, several officers execute a security sweep of the building, including the stands. As Lin is finishing the check, Tenzin inquires how things are going. Annoyed, she brashly answers his questions and asks him to leave her to do her job. However, Tenzin does not back away and states that it would be nice if they could help each other out "like old times", even if it was only for one night. Lin complies, stating that she would try to be "less abrasive than usual".

As the match begins, the arena fills with spectators. Right before the start of the match, Bolin gives Pabu a pep talk, stating that the fire ferret would do great. The trio is then called to the stage by the ring announcer. As the team approaches the playing field under the loud applause of the spectators, Asami, from a exclusive platform, blows a kiss to Mako and winks to him, which the firebender returns, much to Korra's annoyance. The moment they arrive on the field, Bolin and Pabu begin performing a trick as a way of introducing the team, which involves Pabu walking on his front legs and jumping through the middle of an earth disk; the trick only receives a mediocre response from the crowd. The reigning champions, the White Falls Wolfbats, are introduced shortly. The team has donned themselves in capes and wear wolfbat masks. Their introduction is accompanied by an excessive display of fireworks around the stadium, performance that an astonished audience applauses. Dismayed, Bolin dismisses their entrance, saying, "anybody can howl", and commenting that they have nothing on himself and the fire ferret. Korra is gravely annoyed by Tahno's extravagant entrance and proclaims that she is going to knock Tahno's "stupid hair off his stupid head".

As the match begins, it immediately becomes apparent that the Wolfbats are not interested in playing by the rules. Tahno displays an obvious "hosing foul" against Bolin, but it is not called by the refs. With a variety of tricks and fouls which remain unpunished by the referees, the Wolfbats manage to push the Fire Ferrets back to zone three and eventually off the playing field. However, Korra manages to hold up herself and Mako on the edge of the ring with one hand. With an incredible effort, she tosses him back onto the playing field while letting herself plummet down into the water. Before landing, Mako knocks the celebrating Tahno down with a fire blast in the back, just as the buzzer sounds to end round one.

Before the start of round two, the Fire Ferrets briefly communicate on their best strategy against the unfair tactics of the Wolfbats. Korra suggests that if their opposing team is going to play dirty, they should do the same; however, Mako refuses to do so, as the only explanation for the Wolfbats ability to play as they were doing was that the referees had been paid off, and thus the Fire Ferrets would not be able to disobey the rules. Reluctantly, Korra agrees. After a fierce round two with some illegal ice moves and fire shot to the head by the Wolfbats, the round ends in a tie. The Fire Ferrets win the coin toss and Korra immediately decides that it would be a water against water battle. Tahno taunts Korra, inviting her to give him her best shot. He evades her first blast, but the Avatar then delivers another one, striking Tahno in the chin. The impact is so strong that Tahno's helmet is sent flying into the audience and caught by some Fire Ferrets fans, and he is knocked off the platform. In return, Korra taunts him by calling him a "chump".

From the stands, Lin and Tenzin are viewing the match. Upon witnessing Korra's easy victory, Lin expresses disbelief at the fact that the soft-hearted Aang was reincarnated in the tough Korra. Tenzin remarks that Korra reminds him of a young Lin and that they would likely get along if the chief would give her a chance.

After taking the round, the Fire Ferrets regain some hope to win the finals. The teams are more or less matched, but then Ming scatters an earth disk and Tahno sends three water blasts containing pieces of rocks at the Fire Ferrets, knocking them off the ring and into the water. Although Shiro Shinobi proclaims that there would be no way that the knock out would be called legitimate, the referee pronounces the Wolfbats as the winners and the champions for the fourth time. As the Wolfbats celebrate, numerous spectators in the audience cover up their faces with a cloth that bares the Equalists insignia, the typical red circle. They each retract an electrified glove out of their popcorn cartons and use it to take out Lin, Tenzin, and all the policemen in the arena.

Korra and her teammates emerge from the water, and their attention is immediately drown toward electricity waves that are visible in the audience. The Lieutenant appears at the side of the pool and, just before Korra can hit him with a waterspout, he knockes out the Fire Ferrets by sticking his charged weapons in the water. Meanwhile, Shiro Shinobi comments on the strange events happening in the stands just before he is too stunned by an Equalist.

As his henchmen take out the security all around the stadium, Amon and some other Equalists appear in the middle of the ring. The Wolbats attack them, but after a short duel, they are overpowered and Amon takes away their bending. The Equalists push the defeated Wolfbats into the water and simultaneously, Equalist banners appear all around the arena.

Meanwhile, Korra, Mako, and Bolin are being dragged out of the pool to be tied up to one of the playing field's support beams. While teetering on the bring of unconsciousness, Korra has another vision of an adult Toph and Aang as they face Yakone.

Amon makes a speech to the entire audience, commenting that it seems fitting that they would all celebrate the victory of "three bullies who cheated their way to victory" as they do the same every day to the non-benders of the city. He states that the fate of the Wolfbats should serve as a warning to all the other benders of the world; everyone who stands in his way would suffer the same fate. Amon called out to his followers as well, stating that they now had the numbers, the strength, and the technology to overthrow the bending regime and replace it with a fair minded Equalist government. He ends his speech by openly declaring that the revolution has begun.

After waking up during Amon's speech, the team sees Pabu swimming toward them, so Bolin immediately instructs him to chew through the ropes binding them. However, while the ferret is still gnawing at the ropes, Amon and his followers are already ascending to the roof, preparing to escape via airship and blow up the pro-bending ring as they go. The moment Pabu succeeds in freeing the Fire Ferrets, Korra sets out in pursuit of the Equalists, riding a waterspout to the top of the arena. The water does not hold enough power, and Korra plummets down. As she is falling, she is suddenly caught by a metal cable thrown by Lin, who is swinging from the top of the arena and uses her own momentum to launch Korra toward the escaping Equalists.

Korra succeeds in knocking some Equalist fighter off of the little platform they were standing on while being hoisted into the airship. She briefly glances around and sees that the wreckage of several burning police vehicles are scattered all across the bay. Although the Avatar fiercely attacks Amon and the other Equalists with her firebending, the Equalist leader remains outside her grasp and she is knocked off the platform soon after.

A battle ensues on the glass dome of the arena between Korra, Lin, and several Equalists. As Lin attempts to pull herself up toward the airship with her metal cables, she is knocked over by an electrified attack of the Lieutenant. However, before he can finish her off, Korra comes to her rescue and forces the Lieutenant on the run with her firebending. A one-on-one battle commences between the two while Lin immobilizes the other fighters and hoists herself up toward the airship. Korra manages to overpower the Lieutenant and knock him off the arena; however, the strain of the fight proves to be too much for the glass dome and it caves away underneath her. Lin sees that Korra is falling through a certain death and seizes her pursuit of the Equalists. She uses her metal cables to propel her down after Korra and manages to catch the Avatar in midair, the two landing safely in the stadium's bleachers.

Korra thanks Lin for saving her life. As they both watch the Equalist airship fly away from the arena, Korra is welcomed back by Mako and Bolin, who each hug her in relief. As Tenzin walks over to them, Lin expresses her annoyance and disappointment of having played right into Amon's hand. Tenzin comforts her by stating that he had not only played her, but everyone. He concludes by stating that Republic City is now at war.
